What Hakko publishes for T18

Hakko's official FX-888D specification identifies the T18-B as its standard tip and describes a separable tip/heater design. The official T18 page lists B, C, D, I and K shapes among the range. That is model-specific evidence: it supports T18 on the FX-888D, not on every blue station or every Hakko handpiece.

The FX-888D page is marked discontinued. A shop duplicating a bench should therefore check genuine tip stock and the service path as well as the purchase price of a used or remaining station.

Why the 900M label needs a model check

900M is widely used as a tip-family description, but sellers may use the label loosely. The outside shape alone does not prove the correct internal fit, heater contact, sensor relationship or safe operating result. Record the station and handpiece model, then use the maker's compatibility list.

The current Yihua Maker listing cannot settle this: its live copy conflicts between 938D and 982D SE identities, and external 938D references often describe heated tweezers rather than a conventional 900M handpiece. Treat “900M compatible” as unverified until the actual supplied handpiece and documentation confirm it.

A second-bench stock-control method

1. Photograph the existing station rating plate and handpiece label.
2. Write the approved tip code and shape beside each recurring repair task.
3. Buy one traceable sample and verify fit without force while the equipment is isolated and cool.
4. Label storage by family and station; do not mix loose, unmarked tips.
5. Train the apprentice to select by code and joint, not by visual similarity.
6. Record the supplier and reorder point before copying the bench.

A repair-shop owner adding a second bench wants one labelled tip drawer, not two near-identical parts that apprentices can mix. Matching the apprentice's station to the existing process helps only when the consumables truly match.

Shape and contact area still decide performance

Within a compatible family, choose shape for the joint. Hakko explains that a larger contact area transfers heat more efficiently, while a tip larger than the land can cause damage. A broad chisel may suit a connector; a smaller shape may suit a fine pad. “Finest tip” is not a synonym for “best tip”.

The current product page lists £657.21. Ask the seller to confirm the exact model, handpiece and compatible tip codes in writing before buying a second station or bulk tips. Do not infer 900M compatibility from the URL or meta description.

If the answer remains inconsistent, keep the existing bench standard and postpone the duplicate purchase rather than creating two undocumented systems.
